The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us though our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.

I think the problem is we have a lot of autopilot in our head and that it can cause us to think and act in ways that are completely out of our control. There’s a reason why so many movies start with a character saying, “I don’t even know what I’m doing! I’m just going to do what you tell me to do!” If we dont use our brains as much we will end up doing the wrong things, and that is not good for anyone.

What happens when we use our brains at our best? Well, if your mind is really clear, you can plan your day with the amount of clarity it requires. We don’t always have that much time where we can put the pieces together though. The problem with being on autopilot, is that it tends to blind us from seeing the real obstacles. When we think we can do something, we often end up doing it in a way where we end up doing it over and over again.

The best times to be on autopilot are those in which we have a clear sense of who we are and what we like. I mean, if you’re a super-fast-enough gamer in general and you’re having fun doing what you do well, chances are you’ll end up doing more than you might expected or you’ll find yourself constantly staring at the floor.
