To me, 1970 is defined by the genre of movies. It is the decade I can see the most movies. The decade of the ’60s, when I was at NYU, was my favorite decade. My favorite movies that I saw in the ’70s were “The Godfather,” “The Graduate,” “The Silence of the Lambs,” and “The Color of Money.
The 1980s saw the rise of more realistic horror films which put the genre back on the map. It also saw the rise of horror films based on real-life events and the emergence of a new subgenre of horror films called “doom films.” Some of the best 1970 movies were ghost movies, horror movies based on real-life tragedies, and the genre that has proven so influential, the horror film noir.
All of which make for a great run through of 1970s horror movies. I have a lot of respect for horror movies that make an effort to be realistic. I also believe that you shouldn’t shy away from horror movies that are based on true events. It’s not always easy to find those movies, but if you do, you’d be surprised at how good they are.
I don’t know about you, but I think you should know that the title of this blog post is about the great movies of the 70s.
The list of the movies that are really great is probably too short. We could easily take a look at a whole bunch of films of this decade, but we’re not going to. Instead, I am going to talk about some of the films that I think are a tad underrated.
If you don’t have time for a new movie, I’d like to know what movies you’re watching now. Or maybe you can watch them on Netflix.
I was fortunate enough to go to a lot of movies in the 70s. Some of my favorite movies were Star Wars, Taxi Driver, The Manchurian Candidate, and The Great Escape, I can go on and on about them, but I think you get the point.
One of the best movies of the 70s was The Great Escape. It’s actually less of a movie then it is a book. The movie begins when the two-man team of Steve McQueen and Danny Glover make it to the Swiss Alps, only to find themselves trapped in a time loop, which means they’re stuck in a world of people in prison.
The novel that began the movie is actually the first book in a series, the book is called The Great Escape. But the movie is also a movie. The movie takes place in the time period between the book and the novel.
The problem with time-looping movies or novels is that you end up with a movie that is no longer a movie. Or rather, the movie is no longer a movie. This is because the movie is a time-looping/sequel to the original novel. So in essence, we end up with the sequel version of the book. The Great Escape books are all written in historical time so they don’t have the same rules as movies.
